Sign-up is now available for the $5 squares on the field where the Cow Chip Contest will be held (the person whose square ends up with the most cow droppings wins a cash prize). The highlight Sunday will be the annual parade from Old Colony Regional Vocational Technical High School to the Pine Street fairgrounds with floats reflecting the fair's theme this year, "Welcome to the Jungle." Also new are the Children's Pedal Tractor Pull, the Diaper Derby toddler race, and the Woodsmen/lumberjack show and competition. Five classes of Antique Stock and Hot Stock Tractor Pulls will begin at 1 p.m. New on Saturday are the Dairy Goat Show and a Bicycle Obstacle Course race. Friday will feature a Nerf Olympics in the children's arena and wrestling matches that will include Rochester's own wrestler Gary Eleniefsky. The children's arena will feature the Bwana Iguana Interactive Reptile Show that will allow children to see and even pet snakes and other reptiles. On Thursday night, the Cirque Fantasy Show, which combines acrobatics with ballet set to music, will be in the main arena, followed by the fair's second annual Cow Chip Contest. There will be a new event every night of the four-day fair, which is now marking its 14th anniversary. The center arena, where most of the fair's special events are staged, has been enlarged by 12 to 15 feet. The fields and the parking lot have been re-arranged to correct problems with the flow of foot and parking lot traffic. The children's play area has been moved to the front of the grounds, with the vendors on the other side of the entrance road, so people will see both areas sooner. And Pierce said David Souza, board of directors co-chair and groundskeeper, has done a phenomenal job of getting the grounds, previously farmland, ready for the fair.īecause of the experiences last year, she said the layout of the fair has been revamped.
